The Problem

Atlanta has more junk options than answers

Most Atlanta residents end up googling, calling, getting quoted, and often ghosted. A week later the junk is still sitting there. The options exist. They just don't work together.

Free city pickup is great, when it works

ATL311 takes furniture and bagged junk curbside, but service runs 3–9 days out and excludes mattresses, Freon appliances, and construction debris. If your item doesn’t qualify, you find out after the truck doesn’t take it.

Traditional haulers play pricing games

In-person estimates. Truck-load pricing. Final bills 30% above the quote. The hauler model is built for the hauler, not for someone with one couch and a Tuesday.

Donation centers are picky (rightly)

Furniture Bank and Habitat ReStore do amazing work: clean, current, fully-functional items only. Nobody's taking your 2009 sectional with the cat damage.

Dumpster rental is overkill for one room

Permits, scheduling, neighbor side-eye. A dumpster answers a volume problem but needs somewhere to sit, and a narrow driveway on an older street rarely offers one. Put it in the road and you may need permission first. Then you load every piece yourself.

What sets us apart

Your price is locked before pickup day

Most companies charge by truck space, and the price often changes on arrival. LoadUp charges by item, based on exactly what you're removing.

  • Per-item, predictable. First item includes the pickup fee. Every add-on is flat, no truck math, no hourly rates.
  • Locked means locked. The price at booking is what you pay. No adjustments, no surprises.
  • No-obligation quotes. Big job or full cleanout? Text a photo for a guaranteed price first.

Neighborhoods Served

We love working in Atlanta, inside the Perimeter and out past it

Glad to be here, honestly. Atlanta neighbors are generous with directions, gate codes, and porch conversation, and it shows on every job. Whether you're inside 285 or past the Chattahoochee, this is a city and a set of families your Loaders like showing up for.

What Happens to Your Junk

Donation first, recycling second, landfill last

What leaves your Atlanta address matters as much as how it gets out the door. Your Loaders sort each item by condition, aiming for donation or recycling where local options allow and disposal when nothing else fits.

Gently Used

Donation Pickup

Furniture, housewares, and exercise equipment still clean and structurally sound are sometimes passed along for reuse through area donation channels, when intake is open and the item meets what those outlets accept.

  • Tax-deductible receipt by request
  • Diverts waste from landfill
  • Free up your space and help a neighbor
See donation pickup
Visible Wear

Recycling

Items too worn to be used again may still hold value as material. Metal bed frames, appliances, and electronics are separated for recycling where facilities in the area accept those categories that day.

  • Materials sorted and recovered
  • Diverted from landfill where possible
  • Compliant with local waste regs

Heavily Damaged

Responsible Disposal

Water-damaged sectionals, split mattresses, and broken bulky goods go to a permitted transfer station or landfill serving the Atlanta area. Georgia handles some of those categories differently from ordinary household trash.

  • No logistics or transport to handle
  • No sorting or drop-off required on your end
  • Local disposal fees covered

Local Disposal Rules

The Atlanta disposal rules most residents don't know

Unscheduled or early curbside piles can draw a citation instead of a pickup in Atlanta, where the city and Georgia rules below govern what actually leaves your curb.

Rule 01

Bulk items must be scheduled before they reach the curb

Atlanta Public Works only collects bulk material from an appointment made through Solid Waste Services, and items may not go out before 7 p.m. the night before. Continued noncompliance can bring a citation and penalties up to $1,000 per offense.

Rule 02

Twelve bulk collections a year, eight cubic yards each

Single family homes get twelve scheduled bulk collections annually, with each appointment capped near eight cubic yards, roughly a small room of furniture. Exceeding the annual allowance triggers a $343.10 charge under city code, and oversized loads count as another collection.

Rule 03

Construction and contractor debris falls outside city collection

Solid Waste Services does not collect building material, construction or demolition waste, and it will not take debris left behind by a contractor or generated at rental and commercial properties. That material belongs at a permitted disposal or recycling facility.

Rule 04

Refrigerant must come out of appliances before disposal

Refrigerators, freezers and air conditioners hold Freon that a certified technician must recover first, and Georgia scrap metal dealers routinely refuse units without proof of recovery. Never try to release or drain refrigerant yourself; that is a federal violation.

Rule 05

Electronics and tires belong at a recycling drop off

Atlanta's bulk program excludes tires and auto parts, and Georgia has banned whole tires from landfills since 1994. Electronics carry lead and mercury and stay out of city carts, so both go to hard to recycle drop off options.

Rule 06

Yard trimmings stay separate because landfills cannot take them

Georgia bars grass and yard trimmings from most municipal landfills, so Atlanta collects them separately. Cut limbs to four inches thick and four feet long, keep bags under 35 pounds, and anything past twenty bags becomes scheduled bulk.

Only with a scheduled bulk pickup through ATL311. Items left curbside without an appointment can be cited as illegal dumping, carrying fines starting around $1,000 in Fulton County. Schedule online or call (404) 546-0311 — expect a 3-9 business day wait depending on demand.

Through LoadUp, single-item pickups typically start around $69-$150 depending on the item. Full cleanouts for apartments or homes start in the $349 range. Traditional truckload haulers like 1-800-GOT-JUNK usually quote $200-$600 for comparable jobs. ATL311 bulk pickup is free but limited to curbside-eligible items.

Yes — same-day service is available in most Atlanta zip codes when you book before noon. Next-day availability covers the broader metro including areas like Buckhead, Midtown, East Atlanta Village, and Grant Park. Enter your address during booking to see real-time pickup windows.

Yes. Refrigerators, freezers, and AC units contain refrigerants that require certified removal under federal EPA regulations. LoadUp handles the Freon evacuation — no need to get a removal tag yourself. The city's bulk pickup program requires a certified tag already attached, which most residents can't easily obtain.

Loaders sort items on-site whenever possible. Furniture and household goods in good condition go to Atlanta-area organizations like Goodwill of North Georgia, Habitat for Humanity ReStore, or Furniture Bank of Metro Atlanta. Electronics are routed to certified e-waste recyclers. Only items that can't be reused or recycled end up at a disposal facility.

For curbside jobs, no — just leave the junk in an accessible spot and add clear notes when you book. For indoor or garage cleanouts, someone should be present or you can provide entry instructions ahead of time. Your Loader will call about 30 minutes before arriving so you know when to expect them.

The main difference is pricing transparency. Companies like 1-800-GOT-JUNK and Junk King typically require an on-site estimate and charge by truckload, so you don't know the final price until the crew arrives. LoadUp quotes per item online with the price locked before booking. For one- or two-item jobs, that usually works out $30-$100 cheaper.

Most haulers, including LoadUp, cannot take hazardous materials — paint, chemicals, propane tanks, medical waste, or ammunition. Fulton County operates a Household Hazardous Waste facility on Campbellton Road for those items. Tires are accepted but often carry a separate fee. Standard furniture, appliances, mattresses, and yard debris are all fair game.
